A new facility, stated by its operating company to have an annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes of fertiliser, has commenced operations at a port location. This £7.5m installation, belonging to Origin Soil Nutrition and situated at the Port of Tyne in Tyneside, forms a component of the company’s strategy to provide fertiliser to agricultural enterprises throughout the north of England and southern Scotland. Michael Pater, who serves as the firm’s managing director, indicated that the port’s accessibility for deep-sea vessels would enable the company to procure raw materials globally. Ashley Nicholson, the chief business officer for the Port of Tyne, stated that the inauguration of the plant would additionally “bring decarbonisation benefits” by reducing road travel for as many as 5,000 lorry loads annually. The premises encompass a warehouse spanning 64,583 square feet (6,000 square meters) and an accompanying blending plant. Mr. Pater commented that the port’s strategic position empowers the company to foster “sustainable farming by ensuring the right fertiliser is available when and where it’s needed”. The Port of Tyne reported that it was chosen as Origin Soil Nutrition’s new operational hub due to its North East coast location, which would facilitate enhancements to its “distribution capabilities” and enable regional expansion.
