Organisers of a fireworks event, from which hundreds of attendees were turned away due to reaching full capacity, have announced that a “full review” will be conducted. On Tuesday evening, motorists experienced traffic delays exceeding an hour while attempting to access the event, held at the 30th Norwich Scouts property located in Tusting Close, Sprowston, near Norwich. According to a spokesman for the Scouts, the choice to halt admissions was made to ensure public safety, and individuals unable to utilize their tickets will receive refunds. He further stated, “There will be a full review of last night’s events and any lessons learnt will be incorporated into the planning and operation of future events.” A fire engine responding to an emergency call was impeded by the traffic congestion, compelling its crew to proceed on foot to investigate reports of an open bonfire on Lushers Loke, a nearby location. A spokesman for Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service commented, “One appliance from Sprowston went to the scene but got caught in traffic, so our crew finished the journey on foot.” Police confirmed they received calls regarding traffic problems but, based on the details supplied, did not dispatch officers to the location. Grayson Clarke, a spectator, tried to attend the event but parked in a resident’s driveway upon realizing that the event had concluded. He informed the BBC, “We’ve seen people come down here cursing and swearing, because the event has been closed off early, unsure whether they’ll get refunds on their tickets.” The fireworks display was promoted on the Visit Norwich website, which informed prospective attendees that the bonfire would commence at 19:00 GMT and the fireworks at 19:30. Tickets purchased in advance were priced at £5, with an on-the-gate price of £6. A spokesman for the 30th Norwich Scout Group stated, “We are aware that people have been turned away from the Scout fireworks event in Sprowston, Norwich, last night after it reached full capacity.” He added, “The organisers took the decision to stop admission to the event because they wanted to keep all those who attended safe.” The spokesman also advised, “If anyone who had purchased tickets were unable to get in then they can email dab.30th@gmail.com to arrange a refund.”
