An online portal is now accessible to thousands of Guernsey Water customers who utilize a cesspit, enabling them to view their collection schedules. The company indicated that email notifications would also be dispatched to customers upon the completion of collections, in instances of access problems, or if a collection was not necessary. This digital platform, it was stated, is available to all 5,500 cesspit customers. During the summer, certain residents voiced criticism regarding new fees implemented to reduce the occurrence of missed cesspit collections. Andrea Simpson, a business change manager, stated, “This [portal] gives the customer access to information about their service in a simple and easy process”. She further explained, “As we start to enter the Christmas season, we tend to get an increasing number of calls as people start to arrange their plans for the holiday season.” Ms Simpson recommended that customers register to gain “complete visibility” of their schedule. She described the portal and the email notifications as “a real step change in the cesspit service, putting information about your cesspit in your hands – exactly where it belongs”. She also mentioned, “We will be adding enhancements to this portal in 2025, and are hopeful it will make a massive difference to all cesspit customers.” For further information, follow BBC Guernsey on X and Facebook.
