Olympic medalist Amber Rutter, who secured a silver medal in Paris after being unable to compete in the Tokyo Games, has expressed that the theft of her possessions while journeying home following a UK Sport award ceremony has left her feeling “truly devastated.” The 27-year-old athlete, recipient of a skeet silver medal at Paris 2024, had been honored with an athlete comeback/breakthrough award during an event in Manchester. However, Rutter’s personal items were taken during her train trip to Reading, among them the recently received award and an object holding significant personal value. She has since appealed for assistance in recovering them. Rutter shared on X: “Just had all my belongings stolen on my train back from Manchester Piccadilly to Reading, including my cartridge necklace that was given to me from my grandad when I was 12 years old and only took off as I broke the chain last night.” The five-time world medallist further stated: “I’m truly devastated. If anyone is able to help in any way I would be truly grateful.” Rutter, recognized as one of Britain’s leading shooters, had contemplated withdrawing from the sport after receiving a positive Covid test result the evening prior to her scheduled flight to the Tokyo Olympics, an event where she was considered a strong contender for a gold medal. Nevertheless, she proceeded to Paris, securing her inaugural Olympic medal just three months after the birth of her son. Following her receipt of the UK Sport award, Rutter wrote: “This recognition means so much to me after such a whirlwind career of challenges, perseverance and incredible highs. As always, thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.”
