An officer utilized a police baton to extract an individual suspected of a crime from a marshy area during a pursuit related to a stolen vehicle. On Wednesday, two males, whose faces were obscured by balaclavas, were observed operating a moped through Bishop Auckland’s Market Place in County Durham. They were subsequently located in boggy fields with the assistance of a police helicopter. Durham Constabulary has since arrested three individuals—an adult male and two teenage boys—on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, driving without insurance or a valid licence, and drug driving. The force’s roads and armed policing motorbike unit successfully tracked the suspects to the marshy fields after receiving an alert from local neighbourhood officer James Sewell. A police spokesperson commented: “The trio dumped the bike and tried to flee.” “Two of the suspects were chased down while the third – who tried to escape through a bog despite not being able to swim – had to be rescued by an officer extending his baton for him to grab hold of.” Authorities confirmed that the three individuals were apprehended and taken into custody. The black-and-yellow moped, which had been reported stolen from Bishop Auckland, has been recovered and is scheduled for return to its legal owner.
