Police have confirmed that an officer sustained injuries during a vehicle pursuit linked to a suspected burglar. On Thursday, a police vehicle executed a “tactical contact” to stop a car in Shildon, County Durham, according to Durham Constabulary. Following the incident, two individuals, aged 21 and 25, were apprehended at the location. The pursuit, which traversed Chilton Ferryhill, involved both a police helicopter and the force’s Roads and Armed Policing Unit. Authorities reported that the vehicle was operating without lights and was observed driving at excessive speeds, occasionally on the incorrect side of the road. The method described as “tactical contact” entails intentionally colliding with the vehicle to immobilize it. The 21-year-old driver was taken into custody on suspicion of several offenses, including burglary, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop, and having no insurance. The passenger, aged 25, was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Both individuals are currently being held in police custody. Law enforcement officials are still searching for two other men who absconded from the scene. The constabulary has not disclosed additional information regarding the officer’s injuries.
