The conversion of a former Sheffield pub into an off-licence and grocery store has received approval, despite objections from local residents. Sheffield City Council confirmed that an application submitted by E & A Premier to transform the former Byard’s Leap pub, located on Daresbury Drive in Arbourthorne, was granted. The establishment will be permitted to sell alcoholic beverages from Monday through Saturday until 22:30 and on Sundays until 21:30. A petition, bearing 105 signatures, was submitted to oppose the conversion, citing worries regarding a potential rise in crime and anti-social behaviour. However, Mohammad Emmad, the owner of E & A Premier, expressed his belief that the petition was initiated by a rival business. According to the petition opposing the new retail outlet, the adjacent community of Manor Top “already faces significant challenges, particularly in terms of crime rates, anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related incidents”. During a council meeting, Mr. Emmad stated his conviction that the petition was founded on inaccurate assertions, claiming its organizers had informed residents that the premises would be extended, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. His submitted application detailed commitments to implement measures designed to prevent the sale of alcohol to individuals who are underage or intoxicated, and also indicated that a record of any crimes and complaints would be maintained. Mr. Emmad further noted his six years of experience in the industry without encountering any problems, and confirmed that CCTV surveillance would be operational within the store, with footage accessible to the council and police when required.
