Law enforcement officials have reported the arrest of an off-duty police officer in connection with a collision that resulted in a pedestrian sustaining “life-threatening” injuries. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that a 42-year-old man is still hospitalized after being struck by three vehicles while attempting to cross Yorkshire Street in Rochdale around 23:00 GMT on Friday. The force verified that a currently serving officer was apprehended on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving. Officers also confirmed the arrest of a second individual, with both having been released on bail as further investigations proceed. GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate is conducting a review of the event, according to the force. A spokesperson for the police stated, “GMP’s serious collision investigation unit are continuing to ask for witnesses and anyone who may have information regarding the incident.” Previously, police indicated they were also searching for a third driver who departed the location, noting that a blue Mercedes and a silver Mini Cooper are among the two vehicles believed to have been involved.
