An assault in Dublin resulted in injuries to two off-duty gardaí (Irish police officers). The event took place around 01:30 local time on Saturday, specifically at the intersection of Dame Street and Eustace Street. One of the individuals, a man in his 40s, was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and is currently in critical condition. The other man received medical attention at St James’s Hospital in Dublin before being released. As of now, no arrests have been carried out. Simon Harris, the Taoiseach (Irish prime minister), conveyed via social media that he is thinking of the men who were harmed. He stated on X: “The perpetrators of this attack will face the full rigours of the law.” Micheál Martin, the Tánaiste (Irish deputy prime minister), expressed his dismay regarding the assault on the two individuals. He posted on X: “My thoughts are with both men and their families, especially the Garda who remains in hospital.” Helen McEntee, the Minister for Justice, commented on X that “the attack on off-duty members of An Garda Síochána in Temple Bar last night was appalling”. She also mentioned that her thoughts are with the officer still hospitalized. An investigation room has been set up at Pearse Street Garda Station. Gardaí have issued a call for witnesses. Individuals possessing camera footage from the Dame Street and Temple Bar vicinity, recorded between 01:00 local and 01:45, are requested to provide it to law enforcement. Gardaí also wish to interview any taxi drivers operating in the Dame Street area during that period who might possess relevant footage.
