Nottinghamshire fast bowler Dillon Pennington and batter Ben Slater have secured new contracts, committing them to Trent Bridge until the conclusion of the 2027 season. Pennington has been with Nottinghamshire for one season, while Slater initially joined Trent Bridge in 2018. Pennington, 25, claimed 31 County Championship wickets in his inaugural season with Notts and received a call-up to the England Test squad in July, although he has not yet made his debut for the national side. Concurrently, 33-year-old Slater was Notts’ second-highest scorer in red-ball games, accumulating 949 runs at an average exceeding 45, as the team narrowly avoided relegation. He also achieved an average of just under 57 in the One Day Cup, having amassed 498 runs in the 50-over competition that concluded for Notts at the group stage last term. “Ben has developed into a really reliable top-order batter, and his stats speak for themselves,” stated Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores. Regarding Pennington, Moores predicts an “exciting future” for the seamer, whose influence towards the end of the season was curtailed by injury. Moores further added, “The fact that Dillon was our leading wicket-taker after his first seven games for the club says everything about the impact he had on the start of our season.” Pennington had only transferred to Trent Bridge from Worcestershire last summer, whereas Slater – who has scored more than 8,300 runs across his first-class career to date – has been with Notts since 2018, having initially arrived on loan from East Midlands rivals Derbyshire.
