Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has announced that additional tram services will operate six days a week in Nottingham during the period leading up to Christmas. These adjustments are primarily aimed at evening services and bolstering the city’s night-time economy. The revised schedule was initially implemented on a recent Saturday and is set to be used again on December 7. It will then be fully introduced from Monday to Saturday, commencing December 9 and continuing until Christmas Eve. During the peak hours of this festive timetable, specifically from 15:00 to 00:00 GMT, trams are scheduled to depart every four minutes. This represents an increase in frequency compared to the standard service, which typically sees trams running every seven, 10, or 15 minutes, varying by time. A regular Sunday service will be maintained throughout this entire period. Officials stated that no tram service will be available on Christmas Day, though a Sunday service will be offered on Boxing Day. Normal service will recommence from December 27 through December 31, with a Sunday service operating on January 1. Sarah Turner, the service delivery and safety director at NET, commented on the changes, stating: “Over the years, we’ve seen traditional peak Christmas shopping and social times extend, with more demand to get in and around the city far sooner in December than ever before. This is good news for Nottingham’s retail and night-time economy, and we’re pleased to evolve our service to meet this change in customer behaviour, helping people to travel quickly and safely during this busy time.”
