Northampton Town has secured the services of Martyn Waghorn, a forward previously with Derby County, and TJ Eyoma, a centre-back formerly of Lincoln City. Both players join on short-term deals. Waghorn’s career record includes 112 league goals. Waghorn, aged 34, departed Pride Park following his contribution of seven goals, which aided Derby County in their promotion to the Championship last season. Eyoma, 24, was released by Lincoln City, having played 33 times during the 2023-24 season, with 26 of those appearances in League One, and registering three goals. Manager Jon Brady commented on Waghorn, stating: “He has played in the Championship for most of his career and he will bring that knowledge and pedigree with him.” Brady added: “The squad is stretched a little at the moment, both in terms of the number of players missing in forward positions and the busy schedule, and we feel Martyn can help us through this hectic period.” Waghorn commenced his professional career at Sunderland, with his former clubs also encompassing Leicester City, Wigan Athletic, Rangers, Ipswich Town, and Coventry City. TJ Eyoma’s final competitive match for Lincoln occurred in April. Eyoma developed through the youth system at Tottenham Hotspur, undertaking two loan periods with Lincoln prior to his permanent transfer to the club in the summer of 2021. Regarding Eyoma, Brady stated: “Given the busy schedule of games we have over the next few months and the players we are missing, I felt we needed more help and depth in that particular area.” He further added: “He comes in fit and ready to go and we are pleased to welcome him to Sixfields.” Northampton is scheduled to host non-league club Kettering Town this Saturday, followed by an EFL Trophy fixture against Leicester City Under-21s on Tuesday. The team will resume League One play on 9 November, with an away match against current leaders Birmingham City.
