A railway station, which had been closed for three days due to flooding, has now experienced additional operational issues. Limited train services at Northampton recommenced on Wednesday evening, following the River Nene overflowing its banks and causing severe flooding on Monday. Initially, only one service an hour was running, with buses providing alternative transport for other routes; however, a subsequent points failure at the station led to further complications. Network Rail confirmed that the problem has been resolved, but disruptions are still anticipated to last until the close of Friday. In the aftermath of Storm Bert, Network Rail stated it performed “rigorous checks and repairs on hundreds of pieces of signalling equipment” at Northampton.
