Lucy Rigby, the Labour Member of Parliament for Northampton North, has been appointed solicitor general. Before her election to the House of Commons in July’s general election, Ms. Rigby worked as a solicitor. Sir Michael Ellis, a Conservative and her predecessor in the Northampton North constituency, previously held this position from 2019 to 2021. In this ministerial capacity, Ms. Rigby will be responsible for duties delegated by the Attorney General, the Rt Hon Lord Hermer KC. These responsibilities include deputising for him at the parliamentary business and legislation cabinet committee. The solicitor general also provides support to the attorney general in his public interest functions and contributes to promoting the rule of law both domestically and internationally. Last month, Ms. Rigby was also appointed parliamentary private secretary to Shabana Mahmood, the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.
