The nomination period has commenced for the 2024 Guernsey Sporting Achievement Awards. These accolades are designed to acknowledge individuals, teams, and coaches who have demonstrated exceptional performance over the preceding 12-month period. Organized by the Guernsey Sports Commission, the public has until December 9 to submit nominations across 12 distinct categories, with the awards ceremony scheduled for January. According to Graham Chester, the Commission’s director, the awards present a chance to showcase premier sporting talent. Among the recipients at the 2023 awards ceremony was Premier League footballer Alex Scott, who received the outstanding performer of the year award. Mr. Chester noted the considerable amount of domestic and international sporting activity that occurred throughout the previous year. He stated, “From those competing at Olympic level to some of our young sports stars just starting out on their sporting careers, these awards celebrate the very best of local talent.” He further added, “This is a fantastic opportunity for all sports to put forward their top teams, coaches or individuals for one of the awards and I would encourage all local sporting organisations to get nominating.” “We want the evening to be a real celebration of the breadth and depth of sport here in Guernsey and share some of the stories around the top performances of the last 12 months,” he concluded. The specific criteria for each award category, along with a straightforward online nomination form, can be accessed on the Commission’s official website.
