Former Premier League striker Nile Ranger has finalized a new agreement with Kettering Town, which is set to run until next summer and includes an option for an additional 12 months. Ranger scored the decisive header that secured Kettering Town’s 2-1 victory over their League One rivals, Northampton Town, last weekend. This win advanced “the Poppies” to the second round of the FA Cup. The 33-year-old player initially joined the Southern League Premier Central club in September, following a period of absence from professional football since January 2023. Since his arrival, he has netted seven goals and aims to increase this tally when Kettering faces Doncaster Rovers, a League Two team, in another televised match scheduled for December 1. Kettering owner George Akhtar stated, “Since Nile joined the club, he has been a consummate professional and has made a significant contribution to the club’s success both on and off the pitch.” Kettering, currently leading the league standings, is set to resume league play on Saturday with a home fixture against Redditch United, followed by an away match against AFC Telford on Tuesday. Early in his career, Ranger competed in the top flight with Newcastle United, subsequently playing for Swindon Town, Blackpool, and Southend United. His tenure with “the Shrimpers” concluded in December 2021, attributed to “reoccurring disciplinary issues.”
