The scheduled appeal concerning the cancellation of a nightclub’s operating permit has been retracted. Truth nightclub, situated in Carlisle’s English Gate Plaza, had its licence revoked due to issues related to underage drinking. A hearing regarding this revocation was set for last Thursday; however, a spokesperson for Cumbria Police verified that the appeal had been pulled. The spokesperson further stated that the revocation remained in effect and that a licence had been issued for a new establishment named Alien. In January, Cumberland Council’s licensing sub-committee had also cancelled Truth nightclub’s licence, citing concerns about public safety. During the proceedings, councillors were informed that a 16-year-old girl, discovered “tottering” in an intoxicated state, had consumed alcohol at the premises. The police force had previously opposed the transfer of the licence from the former operator, Truth Enterprises, to the new entity, B&2. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, councillors supported this objection in February, as officers perceived the transfer to be a rebranding maneuver.
