Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios, who has been working as a commentator during his recovery from injury, has announced his return to competitive tennis at the Brisbane International in late December, stating he feels “fit and healthy.” The 29-year-old has played only one ATP Tour singles match in the past two years due to a series of knee, foot, and wrist injuries. The Brisbane event will kick off the 2025 season and serve as a warm-up for the Australian Open, which is scheduled to begin on 12 January. Kyrgios reflected on his journey, saying, “It has been a long journey of recovery to be where I am today. One of the goals I had set was to be able to play during the Aussie summer so I am excited that I get to start in Brisbane, which is one of my favourite tournaments.” In October, Kyrgios, who was defeated by Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final, had previously indicated plans to return at December’s World Tennis League event in Abu Dhabi. This upcoming appearance will mark his fourth time competing at the Brisbane International, a tournament he won in 2018 after beating American Ryan Harrison in the final. He further expressed his anticipation for his return, stating, “I am feeling fit and healthy, and I am excited for my return to tennis following some time out of the sport.”
