A couple has been recognized for their combined 45 years of service to the NHS. John and Sandy Ellington were presented with long service awards by the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. Mr. Ellington, who serves as a medical equipment manager, and Mrs. Ellington, a medical equipment co-ordinator, are employed across the trust’s primary locations in Peterborough, Stamford, and Huntingdon, in addition to its community facilities situated in Ely, Doddington, and Wisbech. Mr. Ellington stated, “This hospital has given me everything in life – happiness, wealth, security and a wife. You don’t need anything else.” Their marriage took place in 1982, following their initial encounter a year prior. At that time, Mr. Ellington was a patient recovering from a motorbike accident. Mrs. Ellington happened to pass by as he clutched a doctor’s tie and cried out in discomfort. For the subsequent 30 years, they collaborated in theatre departments. After serving a year in the Royal Navy, Mr. Ellington began his career at Peterborough District Hospital as a theatre technician. Mrs. Ellington, having passed her nurse’s entrance examination in 1979, underwent training at the hospital, commencing her role as an enrolled nurse within the theatre units. Her aspiration to become a nurse dated back to her childhood, a period during which she astonished her mother by bringing a homeless individual who had fallen into their kitchen to attend to his injuries. In her collaborative work with her husband, a primary responsibility for Mrs. Ellington involves managing the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) wireless system, which tracks the whereabouts of the trust’s medical equipment. She commented, “It’s been 45 years this year at the trust and I’m still loving every minute.” Post navigation Motorcyclists to deliver gifts to hospitalized children Medical Union Reports Doctors Received Brief Notice Regarding Overtime Pay Reductions
