Newport County, currently positioned 14th in League Two, has expressed its “disappointment” regarding impending disciplinary measures and a possible financial penalty from the Football Association (FA). This action stems from an incident where an object was thrown onto the playing field during their FA Cup match against Peterborough United. The club, known as “The Exiles,” reported that an item was projected onto the field from the spectator terracing situated behind the Rodney Parade dug-out. This occurred while they were competing against Darren Ferguson’s team in south Wales on Saturday afternoon. This incident follows a public warning issued subsequent to the club’s League Two game against Chesterfield in October. The potential penalties now encompass a fine for the club, along with stadium bans and possible legal action for specific individuals. A statement released by the club declared: “The club is currently reviewing CCTV footage and details of any individual seen throwing an object will be forwarded to the Police for potential prosecution and receive an immediate stadium ban.” The statement continued: “The club will also consider closing the terrace immediately behind the dug-out for future games, as it has done in the past.” Newport further stated: “We remind supporters once again that this behaviour is completely unacceptable, dangerous, and we will maintain our zero-tolerance policy going forward.” Following the club’s 3-0 loss to Chesterfield at Rodney Parade on 18 October, Newport had previously asserted that “the club cannot risk a repeat of the incident.” Newport suffered a 4-2 defeat against League One team Peterborough, resulting in their elimination from the FA Cup during the first round. Initial goals scored by Anthony Glennon and Kai Whitmore gave Nelson Jardim’s squad a 2-0 advantage within the first seven minutes. However, Peterborough countered with goals from Abraham Odoh and Joel Randall, complemented by a late double from Ricky-Jade Jones, securing their advancement to round two. Newport is scheduled to resume play against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday at 15:00 GMT. Sandi Toksvig is accompanied by Gyles Brandreth, Lulu, Emmanuel Sonubi, and Alan Davies. An invitation is extended to sing along to music by Queen, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, and other artists. Ben Fogle and Kate Humble have returned for the festivities at Longleat Safari Park. Topics covered range from microplastics in the air, soil, and waterways to the volume of food waste observed during this period. Copyright 2024 BBC.
