A street in Wolverhampton has been dedicated to a former leader of the city council, who was characterized as a “proud Wulfrunian.” This new thoroughfare, named Neville Patten Gardens, is situated within the Royal Quarter housing development, on the site previously occupied by the Royal Hospital. Mr. Patten’s tenure as a Conservative councillor spanned over twenty years, during which he presided over several committees. He retired from his position in 2014 and passed away in 2020. Sharon Plested, his daughter, commented on the honor, stating: “It is fitting to be honoured in the centre of the city he grew up in and served as alderman and councillor.“This will mark his lasting legacy and memory for us as a family. We are all very proud of his achievements.”” Simon Bennett, who leads the opposition Conservative group on the council, described Mr. Patten as a “true and proud Wulfrunian” dedicated entirely to the city. He further added: “He was a fountain of knowledge and advice to me as a new councillor, and formidable in his passion for local politics. A great friend and colleague.”
