A hospital has announced that an innovative method for managing individuals with suspected cardiac conditions has proven to be five times faster than conventional NHS pathways. Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital presented this approach at the British Society of Heart Failure conference in London. The hospital indicated that its Heart and Lung Centre operates a “one-stop clinic,” which allows patients referred by their general practitioners to undergo both an echocardiogram and a clinical assessment during a single appointment. Dr. Ayisha Khan-Kheil stated that patients could subsequently be discharged back to their GP or be urgently referred for alternative treatment. The hospital’s management of complex patients experiencing both renal and cardiac issues was also highlighted during the event. Dr. Ayisha Khan-Kheil further noted the significant value of experiences shared by other teams, particularly research on the importance of addressing obesity and nutrition, and the function of virtual wards, which New Cross Hospital is also piloting.
