Confirmation has been received that Dorking will see the establishment of a new banking hub within the next few months. These communal facilities enable customers of all primary banks to perform transactions like cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments. Furthermore, LINK, an organization dedicated to ensuring public access to the cash machine network, has advised the implementation of “an automated deposit service” in Leatherhead, following an application submitted by Mole Valley District Council. Currently, neither of these Surrey towns possesses physical bank branches, with only building societies present. Stephen Cooksey, the council leader, characterized LINK’s decision as a “victory for our district.” He stated, “We have been pushing for banking hubs to replace closed bank branches in the district since July 2022 as we know how vital access to banking services is for our residents and businesses.” Cooksey further commented that “Successfully securing a banking hub for Dorking (and hopefully Leatherhead) will provide a much-needed solution for our community, ensuring access to essential financial services can continue.” He also mentioned that the council remains “committed” to establishing a banking hub in Leatherhead and is presently investigating avenues for appeal. In September, a total of fifteen new hubs were introduced, among them Hailsham in East Sussex and Sheerness in Kent. For further updates, BBC Surrey can be followed on Facebook and X.
