An individual previously convicted of child sex offenses has received a further 24-year prison sentence after additional victims of his abuse presented their accounts. Neil Piggott, currently 46 years old, had previously received a three-year prison sentence in 2019 for sexually assaulting a child in 2017. According to Nottinghamshire Police, three additional women contacted the force in 2021 after his initial conviction. Piggott, who has no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to four charges, including two counts of rape. However, he was convicted after a trial and subsequently sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday. Police stated that in 2021, one woman reported that Piggott had raped her on two occasions during her teenage years in the late 1990s. A second young person detailed a sexual assault from 2017 that had not been reported previously, while a third victim described how Piggott had impersonated another individual to obtain personal photographs from her in 2013. The police force reported that Piggott initially refused to comment during his police interview and subsequently entered a not guilty plea to the four charges. Following a trial held in September, he was convicted of two counts of raping a girl under 16, one count of inciting the exploitation of a child, and one count of sexually assaulting a girl under 13. Detective Constable Ruth Statham commented that it was a “complex and evolving investigation with three victims whose abuse at the hands of Neil Piggott spanned 20 years”. She added, “The courage these victims have shown in coming forward to tell of their harrowing experiences at this man’s hands cannot be underestimated.” “I hope these unanimous guilty verdicts will offer some closure to these victims after what has been an arduous legal process,” she concluded.
