Rescuers have reported the discovery of a dog, abandoned in a box, after being subjected to “abject cruelty.” On Thursday, the Swale Borough Council Stray Dog Service stated that eight-year-old Birdie was found inside a box on Breach Lane in Upchurch. A spokesperson for the service indicated that a vet, observing Birdie’s rotten teeth and flea infestation, gave her a score of one out of nine on a body condition scale. Inquiries into Birdie’s situation are currently in progress, and she is receiving care from Happy Endings Rescue. The service also mentioned that a biopsy would be conducted to eliminate aggressive forms of cancer as the cause of her face injuries. Birdie, who is microchipped, had endured “severe” neglect, as explained by the service. Anyone with information concerning Birdie is urged to contact Swale Borough Council.
