The Fleet Air Arm Museum in Ilchester, Somerset, which houses Europe’s most extensive collection of naval aircraft, has prolonged its discounted ticket program for individuals residing across the west of England for the current winter season. Residents with BA, BS, TA, DT, and SP postcodes are eligible for a 30% reduction on all admission tickets and are required to present proof of address upon arrival. General manager Marc Farrance stated that this initiative aims to support the institution during its less busy periods and simultaneously benefit local residents amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis. He clarified that the museum typically experiences high visitor numbers from April to October. “We start to get quieter throughout that November, December, January period,” he noted. Farrance added, “The ability for us to try and bring extra visitation when we ourselves would normally be quiet, at the same time trying to reward local people… It’s a good combination and one we’re always happy to venture.” Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Mr. Farrance mentioned that approximately half of the museum’s 100 aircraft are currently exhibited. Mr. Farrance further explained that the tickets remain valid for one year, allowing visitors to “come back as many times as you like.” He specified that to obtain the discount, individuals “can just turn up with something like a driving licence or a utility bill which shows your postcode.” The general manager also suggested that visitors explore the museum’s recently updated carrier experience. He additionally stated, “Late last year we also launched our new Barracuda live. We’re rebuilding a Fairey Barrucuda from original parts.” “That assembly and rebuild is now taking place in and amongst the galleries, so people can get up close and see how that restoration project is progressing,” he elaborated. This discount will be available until February 14, 2025. Follow BBC Somerset on Facebook and X. Send your story ideas to us on email or via WhatsApp on 0800 313 4630. Copyright 2024 BBC.
