National Express has announced that the cost of a single adult fare on its buses in the West Midlands will rise by 90p. The company stated that adult single tickets would be priced at £2.90 starting 5 January, with all other tickets and passes remaining at their current rates. This adjustment ensures that the operator’s single ticket prices stay below the government’s £3 single bus fare cap, which is scheduled to take effect on 1 January, the firm indicated. National Express provides transportation services in Wolverhampton, Coventry, and Birmingham. Antony Goozee, the bus strategy and commercial director, commented: “Bus is by far the most popular form of public transport here in the West Midlands and we are proud to provide affordable bus travel for passengers across the communities that we serve.” He added that customers traveling on the network before 5 January would be charged £2 per single journey. The company clarified that the specified fares apply to the National Express Coventry bus network and not the National Express coach network. This year, the operator has been conducting trials of a single-decker electric bus service on roads in Coventry.
