Guitars featured on Massive Attack’s 1998 album Mezzanine are scheduled for auction. These instruments and associated equipment, formerly owned by the late guitarist Angelo Bruschini, are being offered for sale by his family, who reside in Bristol, following his death from cancer in October 2023. The collection, which includes amplifiers and a keyboard, is set to go under the hammer at Gardiner Houlgate Auctioneers in Corsham, Wiltshire, at a later time and is projected to fetch more than £15,000. Auctioneer Luke Hobbs commented, “His guitar work can be heard all over iconic tracks from their internationally acclaimed Mezzanine album.” He further remarked that Bruschini’s death constituted a “huge loss to the Bristol music scene,” highlighting his decades as a prominent member of the Massive Attack line-up and his status as a “key component in the explosion of the Bristol trip hop scene during the 1990s.” The auction features a Fender Telecaster electric guitar, which Bruschini used extensively both on stage and in the recording studio. A PS electric guitar, also employed by Bruschini during his performances with Massive Attack, is another item within the collection. In addition to his performances with various bands, including Blue Aeroplanes, Bruschini produced the alternative rock band Strangelove’s album in 1997. He also played guitar on Jane Taylor’s track Blowing This Candle Out, released in 2005. Other notable items slated for auction include instruments, amplifiers, and stage equipment previously used by Status Quo, alongside memorabilia from Ultravox’s Live Aid performance.
