The passing of a “world-renowned Jaguar expert” is now subject to a murder investigation. John Brown, aged 82, passed away in hospital on 29 November, after sustaining injuries during an assault at his residence in Bulkington, Warwickshire, which occurred on the preceding Saturday. His family described the grandfather as “a true gentleman, a pillar of the community, and a world-renowned figure in the Jaguar restoration industry,” adding that his legacy would endure. Warwickshire Police confirmed that Jakob Walpole, 32, residing at School Road, Bulkington, has been charged in relation to Mr. Brown’s death. Mr. Brown, characterized as “the heart of the family” and recognized for his “infectious sense of humour and zest for life,” is survived by his wife, Dot, along with his children and grandchildren. A statement from the family noted, “John’s heart was as big as his talents. He was always ready to lend a hand and nothing was ever too much trouble for him.” They further stated, “His family will forever treasure the example he set and the deep, unconditional love he gave.” The family also mentioned that Mr. Brown established Leaping Cats, a local car restoration specialist, and was deeply committed to his profession. According to them, “John’s attention to detail, his skill, and his dedication to excellence earned him respect and admiration across the globe.” They concluded, “He took great pride in his work and the cars he helped create became a lasting legacy.” Police indicated that Mr. Walpole was also allegedly involved in a separate incident on 23 November at Bulkington Working Men’s Club. Prior to Mr. Brown’s demise, Walpole had been charged with several offenses: grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, common assault by beating, and breach of a restraining order. Detective Inspector Gareth Unett stated, “What was an investigation into a serious assault has sadly turned into a murder investigation.” He added that Mr. Brown’s family is receiving support from specialist officers and appealed to the public to refrain from speculation. The defendant has been remanded into custody, with a court appearance scheduled for 23 December.
