High winds have led to the cancellation of a scheduled daytime closure for a segment of a primary route connecting the Isle of Man’s capital with its northern region. This specific section of the A18 Mountain Road was slated to be inaccessible from 09:30 to 16:30 GMT as part of an initiative to enhance road safety. However, the Department of Infrastructure announced that the initial day of preparatory survey work for the project was deferred because the weather conditions were deemed “not suitable.” The department confirmed that Tuesday’s scheduled closure, spanning from Brandywell Road to the Creg ny Baa junction, was still anticipated to proceed as originally planned. Additional closures have been scheduled for December 9, 10, 16, and 17, with December 11 and 18 designated as contingency dates. Following the completion of the survey work, the road segment from the Bungalow to Creg Ny Baa will undergo a 24-hour closure between March 31 and April 26 to facilitate excavation for drainage improvements and resurfacing. According to the department, these works are being undertaken to enhance the carriageway’s condition and safety, informed by data gathered from previous crashes. Further road closures are slated for the section between Ramsey and the Bungalow, occurring from April 14 to 17 and again from April 22 to 25.
