Health authorities have expressed satisfaction following the recognition of East Lancashire’s maternity services as among the nation’s top performers. The 2024 Maternity Survey, conducted by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), involved 120 NHS trusts and gathered responses from 18,951 women who delivered babies in February 2024. East Lancashire Hospitals Trust (ELHT) achieved a rating of “better than expected.” This assessment was based on feedback from 156 new mothers who had given birth at either the delivery suite of the Lancashire Women’s and Newborn centre or the midwifery-led units located in Rossendale, Blackburn, and Burnley. Martin Hodgson, the chief executive, commented that the outcomes were “positive for local parents and a testament to the hard working maternity team”. The survey encompassed a comprehensive review of maternity services, covering areas such as antenatal care, care provided during labour and birth, and post-natal care. Patients specifically commended ELHT for policies allowing partners unlimited presence, for addressing their concerns with seriousness, and for the availability of staff assistance when required. Mr. Hodgson further stated: “There is a lot of hard work from the team across all our maternity settings to deliver these amazing results and I am so proud of everything they have achieved for local parents and children. “To know people felt supported and heard is very positive indeed.”
