The mother of Brianna Ghey, a teenager who was murdered, has conveyed her profound sorrow on the day that would have marked her daughter’s 18th birthday. Brianna Ghey was unable to reach this significant age, having been fatally stabbed in a park in Culcheth, Warrington, in February 2023. The 16-year-old would have turned 18 on 7 November. Esther Ghey commented that observing the day without Brianna felt “so wrong.” Ms Ghey stated that Brianna, who was transgender, would have been eagerly anticipating her 18th birthday. “She loved her birthday, she’d be counting down to her birthday for months in advance.” According to Ms Ghey, her daughter had hoped for a surprise for her 18th birthday and “really wanted a pink car.” She recounted: “She would quite often sit next to me on the couch, flicking through Autotrader, showing me what pink car that she’d like to try.” Ms Ghey added: “I’m not sure how comfortable I would have been with Brianna on the road but she would have really looked forward to it. “It just felt so wrong she wasn’t there to to celebrate her birthday with us.”” The family observed Brianna’s birthday by spending time together and recalling positive memories. Ms Ghey further stated: “”It really helps to remember Brianna for who she was, the quirkiness and how funny she was, and that’s what we did,”” She also noted that Brianna, being a “home bird,” would likely have spent her special day at home with her family in Warrington. Ms Ghey imagined: “”She would have had a pink cake, maybe some pink sparkling wine…and be in pink, fluffy pyjamas as well.”” Pink was Brianna’s preferred colour, and recently, educational institutions and companies throughout Warrington and the North West participated in a “Wear Pink for Peace” fundraiser, honouring Brianna’s memory and collecting funds for Peace & Mind UK. This non-profit organization, established by Esther Ghey, offers mental health assistance via mindfulness practices and advocates for the implementation of mindfulness programs in schools. Ms Ghey reported that over 100 teachers in Warrington, representing nearly every school in the area, have either completed or commenced their mindfulness training. She stated: “”We’re hoping to use Warrington as a beacon town to show the rest of the country how we can actually do this,”” Brianna was characterized as “the life and soul of the party” yet also a “complex person” because of her challenges with mental health. The teenager experienced anxiety and an eating disorder, which Ms Ghey indicated were worsened by her online activities. Ms Ghey expressed hope that mindfulness education in schools would equip young people with a better grasp of self-care during challenging times. Ms Ghey, who has also advocated for a safer online environment for young individuals, affirmed that Peace & Mind UK serves as Brianna’s legacy. She concluded: “”There’s so many other people that have helped but really the person that is the catalyst to all of this is Brianna.” She added: “Brianna should be and would be proud of herself.”” Post navigation Countess of Chester Hospital Executives Testify at Thirlwall Inquiry Mother Issues Warning After WhatsApp Christmas Party Scam Attempt
