A mother and her nine-month-old baby were saved by firefighters from a flat in Derbyshire after the dwelling became engulfed in flames. Emergency fire crews were called to the property, situated on the A5250 Burton Road in Derby, on Thursday at approximately 23:20 GMT. They employed a ladder to bring the mother and baby out of the structure, both of whom escaped without sustaining any injuries. The Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service indicated that an inquiry determined the most likely origin of the fire was a candle. Lee Williams, a group manager for the service, commented: “On arrival at the scene crews could see the mother and her baby at a second-floor window. “Following a quick brief from police colleagues who were already in attendance, a fire crew wearing breathing apparatus was immediately deployed into the smoke logged property to fight and extinguish the fire. “A further crew quickly pitched a ladder up to the window and carefully brought the baby down to safety first, closely followed by the mother.”
