Morecambe has secured three victories in 19 League Two matches this season, with two of these wins occurring in November. Derek Adams, manager of Morecambe, has acknowledged a feeling of astonishment within the club that they continue to occupy a relegation spot in League Two, even after their recent improved performances. Adams, aged 49, received the League Two manager of the month award on Friday, following victories over Harrogate and Swindon during November. Even after securing a draw against fellow struggling team Tranmere Rovers, Adams’ squad is still positioned 23rd, two points shy of a safe standing. When questioned by BBC Radio Lancashire about his surprise regarding the club’s continued presence in the bottom two, Adams stated: “We are from a performance point of view but we have to be taking big chances when they come along.” He further elaborated: “We have to finish teams off and we haven’t done that this season and that is down to not finishing the opportunities that have come along because we’ve certainly created them.” Adams indicated the necessity of making several squad additions in January to enhance their prospects during a demanding month, which will also include an FA Cup third-round match against Premier League team Chelsea. He added: “We’re probably looking at three or four incomings at this moment in time if possible and the outgoings, we’re not sure as yet,”. Adams also mentioned: “There might be one or two that have to move out to allow them to get game time somewhere else.” He concluded on the topic of transfers by saying: “We probably won’t get them in as quickly as everyone hopes as that is the nature of the January transfer window.”
