Serie A club Monza has named Salvatore Bocchetti as its new manager, following the dismissal of Alessandro Nesta on Monday. Nesta, a former player, notably secured two Champions League titles with AC Milan. The club currently occupies the bottom position in the Serie A standings, having secured only one victory in 17 matches this season, and is five points adrift of safety. Bocchetti’s sole prior managerial experience was with Hellas Verona in 2022, where he served as caretaker boss and suffered defeat in all six games. The 38-year-old’s inaugural match leading Monza is scheduled for Saturday, when they will compete against Parma, a team positioned in 16th place and five points ahead of Monza. Nesta, a former defender for Italy, oversaw Monza’s 2-1 loss to Juventus on Sunday, which ultimately marked his final game at the helm. Nesta, who played as a centre-back for teams including AC Milan and Lazio, assumed the role of Monza’s manager before the commencement of the current season. However, his initial managerial tenure in Serie A concluded with Monza’s third consecutive defeat over the weekend, extending their streak without a win to nine matches. In an official statement, Monza conveyed: “The club thanks the coach for what he has done so far and wishes him the best for the future.” After winning the 2006 World Cup with Italy, Nesta began his managerial career with Miami FC in 2015, followed by periods with Italian lower division clubs Perugia, Frosinone, and Reggiana.
