The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is preparing to sell a former army reserve centre and its accompanying caretakers’ house. These properties, located in London Road, Camberley, are slated for auction on 7 November, with a guide price set at £850,000, and are being presented as potential residential developments. An MoD spokesperson stated that the army reserve centre, which served as a training and work facility for reserve soldiers, has been deemed “surplus to defence requirements.” This sale aligns with the ministry’s broader strategy to downsize its property holdings. Marketed as a prospective site for new residential construction, the primary structure features a large hall, six rooms, a kitchen, two toilets, and a mezzanine level containing two further rooms. The adjacent caretakers’ residence comprises four bedrooms, two reception rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Records from a freedom of information request submitted in 2018 indicate that the centre has been designated as a “disposal” property by the MoD since at least that year. In May 2023, the property was listed on the Electronic Property Information Mapping Service (ePIMS), a platform enabling public entities like local councils to express interest in government-owned land and property. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, property consultants Montagu Evans advised the MoD in June 2024 that an auction would be the most effective method for selling the site.
