A new police station, intended to be “more efficient and sustainable,” has commenced operations in Somerset. Avon and Somerset Police inaugurated the new Minehead station, situated at the former Seahorse Centre on Stephenson Road. The building was acquired from Somerset Council, with construction commencing in May. Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Rebecca Wells-Cole stated, “The way our teams work and the technology we use means that this new facility is much better suited to our needs.” She further expressed, “I hope that this move also shows that we are committed to protecting and serving the community of Minehead for many years to come.” This facility will house the Minehead inquiry office and the Neighbourhood Policing Team. Additionally, it provides “touchdown desks” for response officers. The force confirmed that the team relocated from its previous location at Townsend Road, which was deemed oversized, required substantial refurbishment, and was no longer adequate for contemporary policing requirements. Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody commented that the new station signifies “a visible and accessible police presence.” She remarked, “Having local officers nearby clearly offers a real sense of safety and reassurance.” Moody concluded, “By providing this modern space, we’re enabling the police to stay closely connected with Minehead residents, which is essential for building trust and confidence.”
