Middlesbrough, a town that has hosted a temporary ice rink in its main square for the past two years, will not feature the attraction this winter. Crow Leisure Group and Middlesbrough Council have confirmed there are “no plans” for a “Middlesbrough on Ice” event in December and January, unlike its occurrences in 2022 and 2023. The events company, which specializes in supplying ice rinks, stated it is exploring a new location for 2025. Director Kennedy Crow remarked: “Unfortunately we couldn’t make it work this year but plans are under way for something bigger and better.” The 2022 “Middlesbrough on Ice” event commenced in November with the town’s Christmas lights switch-on, an occasion where hundreds of people gathered to watch live performances and a firework display. Alongside the ice rink, various stalls and food outlets were also present. However, it concluded before Christmas, with the organizers, Crow Leisure Group, citing “technical issues beyond our control” as the reason. While the event did take place in 2023, Middlesbrough Council indicated it would “not return” to Centre Square this year, according to the local democracy reporting service. Nevertheless, Ms. Crow expressed optimism for the event’s future, stating: “The brand new location will include a lot more alongside the ice rink, it’s something we are very excited about.”
