Authorities have called upon the individuals responsible for a moped robbery, during which an off-duty police officer sustained stab wounds, to present themselves at a police station. The incident involved a Metropolitan Police constable, who was off-duty at the time, attempting to intervene in a robbery in Luton. Two men had reportedly stolen a moped after threatening its rider with what was described as a large knife or machete. The stabbing incident, which led to the officer’s hospitalization, occurred outside Luton Point, George Street, at approximately 13:10 GMT on Saturday. Bedfordshire Police has issued images of individuals they wish to interview in connection with the incident. The force stated that the men departed the location, with one riding their own moped and the other utilizing the victim’s stolen moped. Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor confirmed that both ongoing investigations, one concerning the robbery and the other the stabbing, are being treated as high priority. Det Insp Taylor stated: “We have numerous witnesses to the incident and we have released CCTV images in the hope that someone may recognise the people or vehicles pictured and come forward with information. We are particularly keen to speak with a female witness who spoke with the off-duty officer immediately after the incident and would encourage her to get in contact with us immediately. Finally, we would urge the people responsible to hand themselves in to their nearest police station.” The police force reiterated that the individuals fled the scene, with one on their own moped and the other on the moped stolen from the victim. Police confirmed that the off-duty officer was transported to a hospital, where he received treatment for injuries to his arms and chest, and is anticipated to achieve a full recovery.
