Metro passengers experienced “major disruption” following a power cut at a depot. Services were impacted subsequent to the power failure at the Gosforth Metro Depot shortly before 05:00 GMT, as reported by Nexus, the operator of the Tyne and Wear Metro. Kevin Storey, the operations director, stated that this incident subsequently led to an issue with the service’s signalling system. Consequently, he explained, only a “limited number of trains” were operational during the morning hours. Throughout a significant portion of the morning, train operations were restricted to routes from Pelaw to the Airport and from Pelaw to Monkseaton, running every 20 minutes. Nexus reported that services to all destinations recommenced at 11:15 GMT, but noted that “significant gaps” were still present. Mr. Storey added, “Our team at the Metro control are working with external providers to resolve this.” Mr. Storey conveyed his gratitude to customers for their patience and offered an apology for any inconvenience caused.
