As the nation prepares for the significant Christmas getaway, the Met Office has cautioned travellers in the West Midlands that strong winds and rain are likely to cause disruption. The yellow weather warning predicts gusts of 50-60mph (80km/h to 95km/h) across the region on Sunday, between midnight and 21:00 GMT. This advisory comes only weeks after storms Bert and Darragh caused substantial damage, and local councils are still managing the aftermath of Darragh. The latest Met Office warning primarily covers the western areas of the region, including Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Staffordshire. However, due to the anticipated high winds, organisers have cancelled Harborne Market in Birmingham over the weekend, stating it would be “too dangerous to trade”. Furthermore, a number of lower-level flood alerts are active due to heavy rain. Follow BBC Hereford & Worcester on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
