A mental health charity is initiating a campaign to assist individuals during the holiday season. Guernsey Mind’s “You Are Not Alone” campaign is scheduled to run from the end of November through January, aiming to educate people on appropriate responses when encountering someone who may be struggling. Information boards, posters, stickers, and cards will be distributed across the island, providing details on contact points for support. Jo Cottell, chief executive of Guernsey Mind, stated: “We all know how important it is to talk, but sometimes it is difficult to know what to say or how to react, especially if someone tells you they are struggling or having a tough time.” Guernsey Mind will also be introducing free mental health awareness training sessions as part of this campaign. The charity noted that this training is ideal for individuals in roles that frequently involve interaction with the public, such as hairdressers, taxi drivers, and sports coaches. Mrs. Cottell elaborated: “Our special 90 minute awareness training sessions will cover common signs and symptoms of poor mental health, offer guidance on listening skills, and provide tips on what to say to someone who opens up to you.” She added: “Most importantly, we’ll guide you on where to direct them for further support. We’re delighted to offer this training free of charge to anyone who regularly engages with people and feels they could benefit from further knowledge.”
