Dominique Pelicot received a 20-year prison sentence following his conviction for drugging his former wife, Gisèle, raping her, and facilitating her abuse by dozens of men over nearly a decade. He was also found guilty of additional charges. Pelicot had previously admitted to the accusations against him. Pelicot stood trial alongside 50 other individuals, most of whom contested the rape allegations. The Avignon court in France determined 47 of these men were guilty of rape, while two others were convicted of attempted rape, and two more of sexual assault. The convicted parties are granted a 10-day period to file an appeal. A significant portion of the 50 defendants originate from communities within a 50km (30 mile) radius of Mazan, the Pelicots’ village. Their professions include firefighters, lorry drivers, soldiers, security guards, a journalist, and a DJ. A list of the men found guilty is presented. The BBC had previously refrained from fully identifying the defendants, adhering to French legal provisions.
