McDonald’s, the prominent burger chain, has retracted its planning submission for an additional restaurant in a town located in the south of Scotland. The Dumfries and Galloway Council (DGC) had been advised to decline the plans for a new establishment situated on Annan Road in Dumfries during its meeting on Wednesday. Officials responsible for planning had suggested denying the application, citing concerns over its visual effect and the inability to prove that a more “appropriate site” was unavailable. The company stated that the application, which it identifies as a £4m investment, had been pulled, yet it maintained its dedication to establishing a second location in the town. The corporation indicated its intention to file a new application early next year. Following the comments presented in the committee’s report, the fast-food enterprise explained that it had withdrawn the submission to allow for the resolution of the identified concerns. Andrew Crewther, McDonald’s senior acquisitions manager, expressed that the chain was “disappointed” by the advice to refuse the proposal. However, he further stated: “We have been extremely encouraged by the positive feedback we’ve received from the community, and we remain committed to delivering a second restaurant in Dumfries.” A new planning application is scheduled for submission to DGC in the new year.
