Motherwell is set to resume league play with an upcoming journey north to Dingwall for a match against Ross County on Saturday. Manager Stuart Kettlewell had a limited number of players, specifically three, absent due to international duty, with Tawanda Maswanhise being one of them. Following his goal in the victory against St Johnstone prior to the break, the forward earned his inaugural start for Zimbabwe and scored against Kenya, contributing to his national team’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations. Kettlewell anticipates this will further boost Maswanhise’s increasing confidence. Maswanhise appears to be establishing himself at Fir Park, having started the most recent three games and scored three goals. His speed is described as ‘frightening,’ and his collaborative play with teammates was notably effective in the last outing against St Johnstone. During the international break, a practice match provided playing time for players lacking match fitness. Motherwell’s current objective is to maintain consistency following a strong start to the campaign, despite facing a substantial injury list. With no further international breaks scheduled until March, Kettlewell is hopeful for the return of some injured players during an intense upcoming schedule. The team has managed commendably despite the absence of several crucial players, including Callum Slattery, Stephen O’Donnell, and Paul McGinn; however, this particular period of the year consistently poses significant challenges.
