Leny Yoro, acquired by Manchester United from Lille for £52m in the summer, is anticipated to make his debut for the club against Arsenal on Wednesday. Head coach Ruben Amorim conveyed his “excitement” regarding the prospect of seeing the “special talent” play for the team. United secured Yoro’s transfer from Lille for £52m during the summer transfer window. However, the French player subsequently underwent surgery for a foot injury sustained in pre-season, which occurred during a friendly match in the United States, coincidentally against Arsenal. The 19-year-old has not appeared in a match since the injury but resumed training in October. He is now expected to make his initial competitive appearance in the Premier League at Emirates Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20:15 GMT. “Maybe Leny Yoro is going be in the squad,” Amorim stated during his pre-match news conference. He added, “I feel he is in a good moment now, his fitness is better.” Prior to his July signing with United, Yoro had been linked with prominent clubs such as Real Madrid, Paris St-Germain, and Liverpool. The club’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, characterized the centre-back as “one of the most exciting young defenders in world football.” Amorim commented, “He is a special talent, we have to be careful in the first moment. We didn’t have too many training [sessions] together. He has been training with a small group of players.” He continued, “He is really fast, a modern defender. He will be good when we want to press high and you leave a lot of strikers in this league one against one, he can manage that. He is very good with the ball so I am very excited.” Amorim concluded, “We have to be careful, we have to manage the load and minute in the beginning but I am really excited to see Leny Yoro playing.” Since Amorim assumed leadership, United has maintained an unbeaten record in three matches, including a 4-0 victory over Everton on Sunday. Nevertheless, he described the upcoming match against Arsenal as “by far” the most significant challenge he has encountered in his role thus far. Supporters of the Red Devils appear to be establishing a connection with their new Portuguese manager, having chanted his name, with the sounds reverberating around Old Trafford. “I don’t like my chant,” Amorim informed BBC Sport when questioned about his bond with the fans. He clarified, “I don’t feel embarrassed – but I am the coach, they have to chant for the players. It is not a good thing for me,” He further explained, “I understand and appreciate the connection with the supporters but I want them to support the team and the players because they are on the pitch, I am outside.” Amorim concluded his remarks on the matter by saying, “I am really honoured and I feel a connection with the supporters but we know we need results to maintain that.”
