Manchester United manager Marc Skinner has stated the team’s intention to adopt a more attacking approach, following criticism from fans regarding recent performances. Skinner’s squad has recorded three consecutive draws and, despite remaining undefeated this season, currently trails WSL leaders Manchester City by seven points. “We all know at Manchester United we’re judged by results and performances. Fans are entitled to their opinion,” he commented. Skinner added, “We’ve agreed as a team that the performances in our last two games probably haven’t been quite where we want them to be. “Defensively they have, but we want to be more attacking. There is always noise – good, bad and indifferent. We always have to focus on the performance.” Skinner referenced “new adaptations” within his squad, including several summer signings, but stressed that there were “no excuses” for their recent displays. Further key points from Skinner’s news conference included: He noted a decrease in their attacking statistics but expressed satisfaction with their defensive efforts, which have led to five clean sheets this season. Skinner emphasized that United’s fundamental “identity” is to be attacking and aggressive, a style they need to re-embrace. He highlighted the “importance” of securing a victory against Leicester City this weekend, as United’s objective is to win every match. Skinner mentioned that “people want context,” indicating that while new players are not an excuse, they represent a factor requiring adaptation. He further stated, “There’s no excuses here. I won’t make them. I’ve never given excuses. I have just given the context and how it works.” Skinner affirmed that United’s ambitions “never change” despite the current points difference from the WSL leaders. The team receives a boost from Anna Sandberg’s return after recovering from injury. However, Lisa Naalsund might be unavailable for the next three games, and Leah Galton is training but remains a doubt.
