Gareth Taylor, the manager of Manchester City, asserts that the team continues to be “humble” even after defeating another competitor, thereby strengthening their leading position in the Women’s Super League. In the 2024-25 season, City has not suffered a defeat across any competition, recording nine wins and one draw, which includes a decisive 3-0 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Taylor’s squad frequently overcomes newly promoted teams like Palace, having secured victories in 24 of 25 encounters against clubs ascending from the Championship, with a draw against Liverpool in May 2023 being the sole deviation. Notwithstanding their impressive performance and high league standing, Taylor is careful not to become overconfident. Taylor stated, “It’s 10 games in all competitions unbeaten, one draw and nine wins.” He added, “When you look at some of the opposition in there it’s pretty impressive, but we don’t get ahead of ourselves, we try to stay humble and are aware of areas we need to improve on.” The victory at Selhurst Park on Sunday served as an ideal occasion for City to commemorate their 200th match in the WSL, making them only the fourth club to achieve this landmark. The outcome of securing the three points appeared certain, as last season’s WSL runners-up dictated the pace from the beginning, confining Palace deep within their defensive territory. Goals scored by Jess Park, Jill Roord, and Khadija Shaw guaranteed the team sustained its momentum after the international break. Taylor commented, “The squad coped really well today.” He continued, “It’s important to get clean sheets and we dominated as we thought we would do. Palace have done well, they’ve caused teams problems and are dangerous on the counter-attack.” Taylor also expressed, “I was pleased with the performance today from a lot of players. We got some younger players on the pitch at the end and they look like they’ve got promising futures.”
