An individual has been apprehended subsequent to a police pursuit of a van across snow-covered rural routes. Officers reported sighting the vehicle around 01:45 GMT on Friday, specifically in Flixton near Filey, prior to the driver’s acceleration and departure. The van was tracked for approximately 30 minutes until a stinger device was deployed to deflate its tyres, thereby immobilizing it. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was detained under suspicion of dangerous driving and various drug-related offences. North Yorkshire Police indicated that the chase occurred at “fairly low speeds” due to the prevailing icy conditions. The van proceeded in the direction of Grindale before the stinger was deployed within Burton Fleming. A male individual, aged in his 30s, was taken into custody on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, possession of suspected Class A and Class B drugs, driving under the influence of drugs, and failing to comply with a police stop. He is currently being held in custody. Chief Inspector Tom Ibbetson stated that officers operate “around the clock in any conditions to target the people who cause the most harm to us and our communities”.
