Man sentenced to seven years in prison for Aberdeen churchyard rape

An individual who raped a woman in an Aberdeen churchyard has been incarcerated for seven years. Sean Wyness, 34, was found guilty following a trial at the High Court in Aberdeen. Police had been summoned to St Clements Church in the early hours of Sunday, May 15, 2022. Wyness received a nine-year extended sentence, which includes seven years in prison and two years of subsequent supervision. Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Ryan Morris of Police Scotland stated: “Wyness will now face the consequences of his despicable actions in prison. I would like to commend the woman for her strength in coming forward during the investigation. We would encourage anyone who has experienced any form of violent or sexual offence, regardless of when it happened, to report it to us.”
